A 20-year-old Bavaria 32 has returned to the water with a significant performance upgrade, following a Volvo Penta repower by Bay Marine, supported locally by CPG.
Previously reaching speeds in the mid-20-knot range, the vessel achieved 37 knots during sea trials after the upgrade. Bay Marine Director Grant reported smooth handling and performance, describing the result as “certainly a big upgrade from before.”
Experience Behind the Upgrade
Bay Marine has operated its facility for more than 20 years, providing boat maintenance and repairs, shipwright services and mechanical work, alongside its lifting facility and yard.
When the Bavaria’s owner approached the team about a repower, Bay Marine recommended Volvo Penta as a quality replacement for the vessel’s original engines. The team installed a twin-engine Volvo Penta package, giving the ageing vessel a fresh start.
The sea trial results demonstrated the difference, with a substantial increase in top-end speed and smooth performance on the water.

For Bay Marine, the project also highlighted the value of having responsive technical support and engines available locally.
Grant praised CPG’s communication, technical expertise and willingness to help throughout the process. With the engines in stock, delivery to Bay Marine took just two days.
